Tourism Places

Araku is a famous hill station of AP. It is located at a distance of 120 KM from Visakhapatnam ( Vizag ). It is famous for its scenic beauty. Located on the eastern ghats , it has valley, water falls and streams flowing by the side of the train track and roads. The journey to Araku Valley is the most enjoying as the rail passes through tunnels, hill sides and streams. . It is better to go to Araku by train and return by road.
Borra Caves are located at a distance of 92 Km north of Visakhapatnam. The caves open with 100 meter on horizontal plane and aobut 75 meters on vertical plane. These caves spread over an area of one square KM and the origin of river Gosthani which flows through the district. This you must see if you are in Araku Valley or in Visakhaptanam. This location is at a height of 800 to 1300 meters from MSL. William King the British geologist discovered this million years old cave in the year 1807.
The Submarine Museum - Kurusura being set up at the Rama Krishna Beach in Visakhapatnam has a specialty which is the first one of its kind in this subcontinent. INS Kusura is a Russian built submarine. It was built on Dec 18th 1969 and began its journey on Feb 20, 1970 via the Baltic Sea and reached Visakhapatnam on the 11th of May, 1970. Since then INS Kusura was being used by the Indian Defence. The Navy developed it as a War-Memorial with a project cost of Rs.5.5 Crores. The length of Submarine is 91.3 Mtrs. while the breadth is 8.00 mtrs. This is the first of its kind in Asia and second in the world.
Matsyadarshini, a beautiful aquarium with nearly 20 medium and large sized tanks displaying the fresh water and marine fish and water animal species, is setup and run by Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. The Aquarium, established on the shore of Ramakrishna beach, has many marine varieties include the long horn cow fish, butterfly fishes, surgeon major, peacock wrasse, the lion fish, stone fish, red squirrel fish, perch dusky, trigger fish, clown fish, damsels, sweet lip rabbit fish, angels, electric ray, porcupine fish and many more. Matsyadarshini has in its credit uncommon marine invertebrates.
Kailasagiri Hill Top Park, Visakhapatnam is one of the most popular spots for picnicking. Besides, a number of tourist locations are near the park. Some important attractions located at a vicinity to the Kailasagiri Hill Top Park at Vizag are Floral Clock, Jungle Trails, Shanti Ashram, Art Gallery, Children Play Park, Conference Hall, Shiva Parvathi Statue, 7 Wonders of Vizag, Titanic View Point, Gliding Base Point, Telescopic Point and Shanku Chakra Naama. The vast view of Bay of Bengal from viewers' gallery is a pleasing experience. In one of the parks sculptures are carved and installed for additional attraction.
The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is located in Vishakhapatnam amidst the scenic eastern ghats of India.It is situated in the scenic eastern ghats with its natural settings. The zoo is flanked by hills on either side and attracts many visitors from all over the country. Zoo is 4 Km before Rishikonda beach, it is close on Monday, If you are not taking your vehicle inside then prepare for a walk for 2 KM in one side. Inside drinking water and canteen facilities are available. There is a toy train also. The main gate of the zoo is at NH 5 and other end is at beach road side.
VUDA Park is one of the most attractive spots in Visakhapatnam. It is the ideal place for all to spend evenings and leisure times on seashore with eye catching and eco-rich surroundings. The Park is well equipped with a variety of children play pens, boating club, musical fountains, a multi Gym, Yoga Center, Kala Vedika, Pagodas and many more. MGM Dizzy World is another attraction in the park. The Entrance Plaza extends makes the visitors to have memorable moments of joy. Every day thousands of people visit the VUDA Park.
A Memorial, also known as ‘Victory at Sea’, dedicated to the great soldiers who sacrificed their lives to the cause of national integrity and border protection, renowned as War memorial is located in Vizag on the left of the beach road and facing the submarine museum. This memorial is established to commemorate the victory on 1971 at the sea Indo Pak war. Many war related materials are displayed here, including a fighter plane, missiles, few bombs and a tank.
A strange but popular tourist attraction, Dolphin's Nose is a huge rocky headland 174 meters high and 358 meters above the sea level, jutting out into the sea, resembling the shape of dolphin. The rock juts out into the sea, forming a headland on which is the lighthouse. The nation's powerful beam of the lighthouse directs ships 65 KMs away. Whole of Visakhapatnam city can be seen from this place.

Beaches

Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Rishikonda Beach is the perfect destination for people on a holiday. The untouched sandy stretches and warm waves of the ocean make this beach definitely worth-visiting. Sited at a comfortable distance of 8 km from Visakhapatnam, Rishikonda is one amongst the best beaches of Andhra Pradesh. The term 'serene landscape' fits perfectly for the beach, where blue waters extend till the golden horizon.
The Rama Krishna Beach, or RK Beach as it is commonly called, is one of the best known beaches and tourist spots in Vizag, attracting a large number of visitors. Swimming, sunbathing and beach volleyball are popular activities on the beach. An aquarium, the Kali temple, Visakha Museum, roadside restaurants offering seafood are other attractions. R.K.beach is jointly developed by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation(GVMC) and Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority(VUDA).
The 24 Km beach road from Vizag to Bhimili is one of the longest beach roads in India. The sun-kissed beaches en route make the Car/Bike drive as enjoyable as the destination. Bhimili a sleepy little town, is the second oldest municipality in the country and is situated at the confluence of river Gosthani and the Bay of Bengal. Bhimili Bhimeswara Swamy temple welcomes every visitor to this little town. According to history, the temple was constructed in 1226 by Salivahana saka. There are also cluster of temples along the line of sea coast.
Yarada Beach is surrounded by hills from three sides and Bay of Bengal on the fourth side. Located in close vicinity of the destination, the beach is dotted with lush green surroundings and soft golden sands. The beach is an ideal tourist spot for nature lovers as they can capture beautiful views of sunrise and sunsets on this huge coastline.
Lawson's Bay beach, also called as Pedawaltair beach, a calm serene and secluded cute beach with lusting greenery and golden sands is located close to Ramakrishna beach in the way to Kailasagiri Mount from Visakhapatnam. A beautiful beach and the vast blue sea that falls on the way to Kailasagiri Hill, Lawson's Bay is an ideal spot for sea bathing and surfing. An enchanting stretch of golden sands, blue sea and green palms. You can even swim a few laps, as the water current is quite low.
Gangavaram Beach is one of the beautiful beaches located on the south of Visakhapatnam. Located in close vicinity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, the beach is lined with huge and shady palm trees. Owing to its beautiful surroundings and vast coastline, the beach is an ideal place for numerous Indian film and TV serial makers. Offering beautiful views of Pitta Konda in the middle of the ocean and the Krishna Temple on opposite hill, the beach is frequently thronged by tourists.
Mangamaripeta Beach is a popular beach located in vicinity of Visakhapatnam. It is believed that the region was under the kingdom of Kalingas and later the beach was used to serve as the promotional centre of Buddhism. The beach is popular for Thotlakonda, a hill embracing a Buddhist complex. Located at an elevation of 128 m, the complex was discovered by an aerial survey conducted by the Indian Navy. Attracting many nature and adventure lovers, the beach is famous for its natural surroundings and adventurous water sports.
One of the largest freshwater lake in the country and cradled in the foothills of the Eastern Ghats,the lake Konda Karla-Ava is situated at 50 Kilometer from Vizag on sankaram (Buddhist Place)- Etikoppaka (Craft Village)- Kondakarla Ava Circuit. Kondakarla Ava is the second largest fresh water lake in the state. It has been recognized as Eco Tourism Destination. Kondakarla Ava is home to an array of flora and fauna. As Soon as you enter Kondakarla Ava The scenic beauty takes you over. The tranquil waters of a lake surrounded by coconut trees on one side and green hills all around provide a great escape from the air and sound pollutions. A nature lover's paradise Little wonder it was a popular holiday resort of the Vizianagaram Maharajas and the British in the pre-Independence era.
